Sonos Set to Release Move 2 Portable Speaker with Upgrades in Audio Performance and Battery Life
Sonos is preparing to launch the Move 2, its next portable speaker model, at the end of September. The Move 2 will feature a design similar to the first-generation model and will weigh over six pounds. However, Sonos has made significant improvements to the audio performance, battery life, connectivity, and charging base station.
The Move 2 will offer true stereo playback with the inclusion of dual angled tweeters, providing an upgrade from the mono output of the original Move. The speaker will also include a woofer for handling bass frequencies. Battery life has been extended to deliver up to 24 hours of continuous playback, compared to the 10 hours of the first-generation Move. The battery will be replaceable, and the Move 2 has been designed to use less energy when idle, improving standby endurance.
The new speaker will carry over the redesigned controls from Sonos’ Era 100 and 300 models, including a dedicated volume slider. Like the Sonos Roam, the Move 2 will be able to play Bluetooth audio across the rest of the Sonos system while at home.
The Move 2 will continue to feature IP56 dust and water resistance and will use shock-absorbent materials for durability. The wireless charging base station will now include a detachable power adapter, and the speaker will support line-in audio and charging of mobile devices through its USB-C port.
The Move 2 will be available in three colors: black, white, and a new olive option. It will be priced at $449 in the United States, a $50 increase from the original Move. Sonos has not commented on these rumors and speculations.
